The company was founded in 1937 as Alexander Potash & Sons, Inc. in the small town of Oakland, NJ, located in northwest Bergen County. Alexander saw the opportunity to take advantage of the rapidly growing need for housing in the area. The firm was involved in land clearing, grading, drainage, road building, and septic systems for residential subdivisions.
In 1951, the reigns were handed over to Alexander's three sons, Jim, Bill, and Ed. The company was renamed James Construction, Inc., and branched out into municipal and county roadwork, water main work, and bridge construction. During the mid-1960's, the brothers began concentrating on the firms current specialty, site work for commercial/industrial facilities. James Construction established a reputation with owners, general contractors, construction managers, architects/engineers, labor unions, and material suppliers that continues today. The firm completes its contracts on time and per the specifications, meets all of its financial obligations, treats its workforce with high regard, and makes client satisfaction its number one priority.
James Construction's Oakland facilities include a 9 acre site with 10,000 square feet of office and maintenance buildings. Equipment maintenance, service, and repairs are performed by James Construction employees. Estimating, accounting, contracts, and project management are handled at the firm's Oakland office.
